Palworld Pal Tier List 2026: Best Pals for Combat, Base Work, Mounts & Every Role
I brought a Level 35 Chillet to the Lily & Lyleen tower fight and got wiped in 90 seconds because dragon-types get destroyed by grass. Element matchups matter more than level in Palworld. Here's every Pal worth your Pal Sphere, ranked by role.
S-Tier combat Pals (these win boss fights by themselves)
Jormuntide Ignis (Fire/Dragon — Level 45+ wild, No. 2 Wildlife Sanctuary): This is the strongest combat Pal in the game. Fire and Dragon dual-typing covers 9 types super-effectively. Partner skill: while mounted, your attacks deal Fire damage — turns you into a flamethrower. Best move: Fire Ball (150 power, AoE). stats: 130 Attack at level 50 with full souls. Catch one with a Legendary Sphere while wearing heat-resistant armor — the sanctuary has guards and Jormuntide Ignis will one-shot you at lower levels.
Shadowbeak (Dark — Level 45+ wild, No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary): Dark type with no weaknesses until endgame. Partner skill: Divine Disaster — lock-on laser that deals 150+ damage per hit on a 15-second cooldown. Best move: Divine Disaster II (170 power). Base speed 150 — fastest ground mount in the game. Catch: Legendary Sphere, cold-resistant armor for the sanctuary.
Frostallion (Ice — Legendary, west of Land of Absolute Zero at -357, 508): Legendary Ice type. Freeze enemies for 3 seconds on hit. Partner skill: Ice Steed — while mounted, player attacks change to Ice and deal +50% damage. Stats: 140 HP, 130 Attack. Best Ice DPS in the game. Use it vs Dragon-type towers (Axel & Orserk).
Jetragon (Dragon — Legendary, west of Mount Obsidian lava river near -784, -320): Fastest flying mount in the game (3300 sprint speed). Partner skill: Aerial Missile — lock-on missile launcher while mounted. Best move: Dragon Meteor (150 power, AoE). Downside: Dragon is weak to Ice — don't bring it vs Frostallion.
A-Tier combat Pals
Blazamut (Fire — Level 40+ at No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary): Fire counterpart to Jormuntide Ignis with better bulk (150 HP vs 130) but lower Attack (120 vs 130). Partner skill: Volcanic Burst — AoE fire damage around mount. Excellent for base raiding because AoE kills multiple enemies at once.
Anubis (Ground — breedable, also spawns near Twilight Dunes boss at Level 47): Ground-type with the highest handiwork (4) + mining (3) in the game. But combat-wise: 130 Attack, Ground typing covers Electric (Orserk fight). Partner skill: Guardian of the Desert — applies Ground damage to player attacks while mounted.
Orserk (Electric/Dragon — Level 45+ at No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary): Dual Electric/Dragon typing with 130 Attack. Partner skill: Ferocious Thunder Dragon — lightning discharge while mounted. Counters Water types hard, which covers the Jormuntide (Water) boss fight. Weak to Ground and Ice.
S-Tier base work Pals (your base runs on these)
Anubis (Handiwork 4, Mining 3, Transporting 2): The single most valuable base Pal. Handiwork 4 crafts items at 4x the speed of a Handiwork 1 Pal. Mining 3 clears ore/coal nodes quickly. Every base should have 2-3 Anubis assigned. Breedable via Penking + Bushi (early game accessible).
Jormuntide Ignis (Kindling 4): Kindling 4 smelts ore into ingots at maximum speed. Before Jormuntide Ignis, smelting is your biggest bottleneck. Kindling 3 Pals (Blazehowl, Blazehowl Noct, Reptyro) are stopgaps until you catch or breed one. Every smelting base needs one.
Astegon (Mining 5): Only Pal with Mining 5. Ore, coal, sulfur, quartz — Astegon mines everything at the maximum possible speed. Breedable from Anubis + Shadowbeak. Dark/Dragon typing means it works through the night without needing beds (Dark types don't sleep).
Lyleen (Planting 4, Medicine 3): Auto-plants berries/wheat/lettuce/tomatoes. Planting 4 covers all crop types. With a Watering Pal and a Gathering Pal, your food chain becomes fully automated. Catch near No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary at Level 40+.
Frostallion Noct (Gathering 4): Dark-type horse that gathers crops at 4x speed. Dark typing means it works through the night — your farms don't stop producing. Breed Frostallion + any Dark Pal.
S-Tier flying mounts
Jetragon (3300 sprint speed): Fastest mount in the game by a large margin. Reaches opposite side of map in 30 seconds. Aerial Missile partner skill lets you carpet-bomb from the air. Catch requirement: Legendary Sphere, heat-resistant armor, and at least Level 45 — it will destroy you otherwise.
Frostallion (1500 sprint, Ice): Second-fastest flier with the Ice Steed combat bonus. Better combat mount than Jetragon because Ice typing is more useful (counters Dragon bosses). Slower but you'll actually win fights while flying.
Faleris (Fire, 1400 sprint): Pre-endgame flying mount. Found as eggs in the volcano region (Mount Obsidian) or rare spawns. Best mid-game option before you can catch Frostallion/Jetragon. Heat resistance built in — can fly through volcano without damage.
Ragnahawk (Fire, 1300 sprint): Easy to find near Mount Obsidian southwest at Level 30+. Applies Fire damage to player attacks while mounted. Best early flying mount — you can catch one at Level 25 with Hyper Spheres.
Best ground mounts
Shadowbeak (1500 sprint): Incomparable ground speed. Only Frostallion and Jetragon are faster overall. Modified with Swift (+30% move speed), Runner (+20%), and Nimble (+10%) passives for 1950+ sprint speed.
Fenglope (Cloud) (1300 sprint): Neutral type with double-jump while mounted. Parkour king — jump over base walls, cliffs, and enemy attacks. Cloud typing means instant acceleration when you press sprint. Found in No. 2 Wildlife Sanctuary at Level 35+.
Direhowl (1100 sprint): The first fast ground mount you can get — Level 20+ in Windswept Hills and Verdant Brook. Direhowl packs are aggressive but catch one early and your travel time cuts in half. Can outrun any threat before endgame.
Element matchup cheat sheet (for tower bosses)
Zoe & Grizzbolt (Electric): Use Ground Pals (Anubis, Digtoise). Electric is weak to Ground. Avoid Water — Grizzbolt's Electric attacks one-shot Water types.
Lily & Lyleen (Grass): Use Fire Pals (Jormuntide Ignis, Blazamut, Faleris). Grass is 2x weak to Fire. Avoid Ground (Lyleen's Grass attacks hit Ground super-effectively).
Axel & Orserk (Electric/Dragon): Use Ground + Ice Pals (Anubis for Electric, Frostallion for Dragon). Orserk has two types covering different threats — bring both.
Marcus & Faleris (Fire): Use Water Pals (Jormuntide, Suzaku Aqua). Fire is 2x weak to Water. Avoid Grass and Ice — Faleris melts them.
Victor & Shadowbeak (Dark): Use Dragon Pals (Jetragon, Jormuntide Ignis). Dragon beats Dark. Shadowbeak's Divine Disaster hits everything — bring a tank Pal with high HP.
Pals to never invest in (low stats, bad partner skills, outclassed early): Lamball, Cattiva, Chikipi (starter Pals — replace immediately), Vixy (only good for Ranch passive Pal Sphere farming), Fuack (outclassed by Pengullet at the same level), Gumoss (planting 2 but Lyleen exists), Tanzee (planting 1 but every other planting Pal is better), Lifmunk (early-game SMG partner skill is strong for first 15 levels, then irrelevant).
